We have been working on the tag set for 216 hours, and there are now 3196 approved fandoms in the tag set. We’re nearly there!

Please help us with the following issues:

17th Century CE RPF - We would like help to narrow this fandom down, as it is presently too broad. The characters nominated are:
  • Ben Jonson

  • Esme Stewart 1st Duke of Lennox

  • George Villiers 1st Duke of Buckingham

  • James VI and I

  • John Donne (17th Century CE RPF)

  • Robert Carr

  • Robert Carr 1st Earl of Somerset
-are these Robert Carrs the same? Esme Stewart 1st Duke of Lennox died before 1600; nominator, which person did you mean?

Chronicles of the Raven - James Barclay - Ry Darrick only seems to appear in the sequel trilogy; is that incorrect, or does this fandom label cover both trilogies? We’d also appreciate a little more information on the Unknown Warrior.

The Dark Tower - Stephen King - this is approved, and includes both 'The Man in Black' and 'Marten Broadcloak'. Nominators, would you prefer they are merged, or kept separate?

NaPolA | Before the Fall (2004) - Two characters, Albrecht Stein and Friedrich Weimer, are characters in the film; the other two, Florian Stetter and Martin Goeres, are actors. Nominator, could you please confirm whether you wanted to nominate the movie, or to nominate an RPF canon of the movie’s actors?

Never Too Wanted - The Composed Faucet Collection (Commercial) - We can’t figure out which character you’ve identified as the US Marshall - pointers, please? (Anyone?)

New York Yankees RPF - this has been approved, with characters Aaron Judge, Didi Gregorius, Gary Sánchez, and Greg Bird. However, Baseball RPF has also been approved, with characters Adam Lind, Anthony Rendon, Bryce Harper, Ian Kinsler, James McCann, Jayson Werth, José Iglesias, Michael A. Taylor, Miguel Cabrera, Sean Doolittle, Trea Turner, and Wilmer Difo. Yankees nominator, would you prefer your nomination was folded into Baseball RPF or that it was kept separate? (NB: this is possibly the last year ‘Baseball RPF’ is eligible under its current label.)

No Game No Life - Kamiya Yuu - we're a little confused by the character 『 』| Kuuhaku | Blank. Could the nominator please give their reasoning for nominating this character separately?

Smosh - the characters nominated are Keith Leak Jr., Noah Grossman, Olivia Sui, and Shayne Topp. Could the nominator please clarify if this is a nomination for RPF, or for fictionalized characters that share the names of the real people?

Star Wars: Marvel Comics - this nomination combines characters from multiple different series. The characters nominated are Captain Tolvan, Eneb Ray, Lando Calrissian, Queen Trios, and Terex. Could each nominator please choose one title for us to approve?

刀剣乱舞 | Touken Ranbu - Unfortunately, we made a mistake when we sent this through. Sorry. While we’re happy to approve this, we’d like some help: could each nominator please tell us which characters they nominated and under which label? We’d particularly like to hear from the Katsugeki!-specific nominator.

Zero | Project Zero | Fatal Frame Series - this seems to be a nomination for characters from two separate games, with Hinasaki Miu, Kozukata Yuuri, and Kurosawa Hisoka from Fatal Frame V, and Kurosawa Rei from Fatal Frame III. Could the nominator please either clarify, or pick just one game? (Fatal Frame IV is in the tag set separately.)

All Media Types fandoms
We need clarification from the person (or people) who nominated the following fandoms. Please specify a single version of the canon and provide a link to your nominations page so we can confirm the nomination. If these aren't answered, the fandoms will be rejected:
  • Kino no Tabi | Kino's Journey - All Media Types, characters: Kino (Kino no Tabi)

  • Kizoku Tantei, characters: unnamed main character (Kizoku Tantei)

  • A Room With a View - All Media Types, characters: Charlotte Bartlett, Eleanor Lavish

If you are commenting about your own nomination to say what you would like done with characters or fandoms, please link your nominations page! It is the page you get by clicking ‘My Nominations’ from the tag set.

If you notice any problems with your nominations - mis-spellings, etc - feel free to comment on this post.

Fics written for the purpose of re-qualifying for Yuletide must be posted before signing up to Yuletide 2017 (ie, before October 9 and ideally before October 1). You have two weeks! They must also be over 1,000 words and written to a previous Yuletide prompt. The fandom in which they are written must still be small enough to qualify for Yuletide (in brief: there are fewer than 1,000 fics each (that are over 1,000 words, in English, and complete) when adding the total fics on AO3 and ff.net).

Goals for 12 Days Of Ficmas 2017, in order:
- complete sedoretu: definitely complicated
- finish off Fire And Ice: MCU Jaeger AU series
- finish off 30 days of Steve/Maria series
- finish off Neighbours AU series

I mean, I'd also like to write the sequels to 'Between Destiny And Love', (currently titled: 'Destiny Is Overrated' and 'Paved With Good Intentions'), write that Black Jewels AU, and finish off 'a practical acquaintance with bees', but, eh. Even I have limits to how much I can write while simultaneously holding down a job, managing a house, and having a social life...

Today animal control came to our house and told us that the delivery driver complained to them that our dog bit him. Although it was clear that he had not been bitten and had just sustained a minor scratch, because he claimed he had been bitten there was nothing anyone could do, and our dog has to go to quarantine, at our expense, for 10 days. This happened once to my mom's friend and it cost her $300. I don't have $300 lying around! I mean, yeah, things just got a bit better with Kevin's promotion, but not enough better to take a $300 hit our first half-month of it. We're still playing catch up. There are two trees down in our yard since the hurricane, and we can't pay to move those, we both needed new tires because of nails that had them completely flat, and we put that on a credit card we can't pay off, And I just don't know what to do.

Kevin is busy writing negative reviews of his employer. I wish I thought they'd get him fired.

I'm fighting off panic at the price tag, and anger that the animal control agent said he clearly wasn't bitten but there's still nothing they can do and anger that he is slandering my dog (but my dog probably does not have legal standing in a court to sue him - which Kevin won't let me consider doing anyway). And desperate sadness because my dog is going to be locked away with no one to love him, and he's not going to understand why he doesn't have even his sister with him for the first time in his life. And I'm afraid if he's in quarantine they won't be able to let him go outside throughout the day. And basically, my poor dog, who did nothing but try to make a friend he thought was playing with him.

Otherwise, I was supposed to go to the zoo today for gorilla day, to do arts and crafts activities with kids. I emailed two people to ask where to meet and neither of them got back to me, so I didn't go. I did wake up to check my email on time to have gone, but I didn't go. I'm really annoyed about this because it means I either need to spend more time in flamingo plaza as a greeter, or I have to find other events to sign up for. I should probably look in next month to see when these events might be. Yeah now I'm signed up for something called "Boo at the Zoo" on the 21st. If I don't get enough hours by then, I'll finish up then. It's by the orangutans which I actually know something about having studied them as an anthro major in college.

I don't remember if I mentioned this here or not, but 23andMe is doing a study of people who have been treated for either depression or bipolar disorder, and in exchange for your DNA they'll send you a free ancestry and health report. So I mailed off a vial of my spit to help with that study and find out whether I should be chasing this Polish guy or the English guy on ancestry.com. There are also rumors in my mother's family of some Native American ancestry, which it will be interesting to find out of that is true or not. If you've been treated for bipolar disorder, you can click here to get in on the same deal I did - but time is running out. The depression study is already closed.

I opened a loot pets box today to see if I'd get some kind of a toy I could send with Jack to quarantine, but Kevin wound up really liking the toy inside it (which was a borg cube), so we gave it to Rogue, who will not destroy it instead of Jack, who will.

So my parents have been going down to Ashland pretty regularly since I was a teen. The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is located there. It's basically a town that is all Theatre district because of it. Which means lots of great shops, food, and theatre. The festival runs from February through October, and so we went down towards the end of the festival, which means we missed one of the shows. But we got to see the other 10. Most days we had two plays each, but it was worth it. This is all these people do, so it's always good theatre, even if it's not as great as some of the other plays. They do a mix of Shakespeare, Shakespeare-related, experimental theatre, and nowadays they have one musical from Broadway, done in their style.

Last year, for my birthday, my parents offered to take me down with them this year. As I hadn't been down since before I was employed (and even longer before that trip), I of course said yes.

We left Sunday, and took our time going down. We left Seattle around 11-ish, and got down to Portland shortly before supper time. We wandered around and found the world's smallest park, Mill Ends Park. Afterwards, we wandered around until we found a place to eat, then headed off for Powells, and spent the rest of the evening there.

Monday morning we got up, had a small breakfast, and then went to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, which had the Pompeii exhibit going on.
Some shots from the exhibit )

Drove down to the Oregon Outlet mall and shopped that day, then drove again to Eugene, where we stopped at Smith Family Bookstore, then went to the Oregon Electric Station for dinner. We stayed across the freeway in Springfield that night.

Then Tuesday morning we got up, drove down to Medford, and picked up a scooter for mom to use in Ashland. And then we were on our way to Ashland.

Recap of my time in Ashland )

The next morning, we packed up and went home. We stopped in Cottage Grove for lunch and found a place with great pub food and a craft soda menu. I went with something called "Dang That's Good Butterscotch Rootbeer." It was delicious. We got back to Seattle sometime after seven, had supper, and then they dropped me off, whereupon my cat began to complain at me that I had been gone for a whole week. And has only finally calmed down today.

It was a great trip, and I really want to go back next year because they're doing Othello, which is my favorite play, and also the Book of Will, which is about the making of the first folio. We'll see if it happens. Maybe I'll try to talk sis into it, just the two of us, or something.

I'm rereading Gaudy Night by Dorothy L Sayers for the first time in maybe a year, since I just switched my Audible membership over to .ca instead of .com, and the Canadian website has the rights for the book when the American website has just been promising to have it for ages but never actually being able to sell it.

In that time I've read Hannah Arendt's The Origins of Totalitarianism, which very closely details the rise of anti-Semitism in Western Europe between the French Revolution and the Second World War. Sayers is an awkward novelist in that her writing in the 1920s and 30s is sparkling in many ways, but soured a few times a book by discordant notes whenever "those people" are mentioned--Sayers seems to think that she is being very liberal-minded by mentioning Jewish people at all, much less having her characters vaguely tolerate them and discuss how a Jew might be as moral as the next fellow. (She had an unhappy early affair with a Jewish writer that seems to have affected her strongly)

I can see no situation in which they might ever have met, but still, the whole thing solidifies mentally for me into a unified whole if I imagine them at some evening party full of urbane and witty literary people, drinking and smoking and sounding clever, where Sayers is holding forth and being pleased with herself and Hannah Arendt is smoking in silence and taking down extensive mental notes for an essay later. She smiles when Sayers passes her an ashtray, but she's already plotting her revenge.

Carefully cut out the superman logo. Carefully started sewing. Realized I'd carelessly put it wrong side up (that is, the side with the ink). Ripped out the stitches, flipped it - d'oh! Silly me, I should've flipped it when I drew it!

Well, it's done now. Thankfully, I expected errors and bought a lot of extra felt.

The funny thing is that all his classmates, their families just drew on the bags with Sharpies. His mom asked me to do it due to lack of time, but I can't draw! I even had somebody else do the stencils for me! So now it looks like I put in way more effort than anybody else (despite the fact that I can see all the errors glaring out at me), but really, I just can't draw. Cutting and sewing is a LOT easier for me.

One week and six days, rather. Time is certainly passing quickly. (See the countdown here.) All pinch hits are currently claimed, and you all have done a spectacular job staying on top of those, so thank you (and thank you, [personal profile] withinadream), but keep watching for more, just in case. Beta readers are always appreciated, too, and keep your eyeballs on those Dear Creator letters. Not quite to the home stretch yet, but ... soon, soon!

Hi!
Sorry I've been so quiet, everyone. I fell out of the habit of posting regularly over at Insanejournal, so I'm working on getting back into the habit.

My birthday was great. My parents took me down to Ashland, Oregon, to the Shakespeare Festival there. It was fabulous, and I will make a post on that shortly (have to go through the few photos I have so I can share them with you all without showing people, because I do try to separate my fandom and personal spaces). Got back to work Tuesday and had a ton of great gifties from co-workers (mostly chocolate, which I made myself sick on), and have been trying to catch up on all my sites ever since.

I also got my Loot Crate box this week, which I finally picked up on Friday, so I will share those shots with you now, because I loved this box.
Many images of Loot Crate Goodness behind the cut )

As I said, this is definitely one of my favorite boxes. :)

Stay tuned for photos of my trip down to Ashland, and some of the places I went and a list of all the plays I saw. :)

Once again, I didn't sign up for Remix. I did, however, pick up a pinch-hit at the end:
title: My God, It's Full Of Nerds (the It's Sci-Fi All The Way Down remix)
summary:Do not argue with nerds, for you are unschooled in knowledge and taste delicious with pedantry. (Or: "Steve Rogers and the Science-Fiction of the Twenty-First Century")
rating: G
characters/pairings: Steve Rogers, Maria Hill, (cameo Pepper and Tony)
tags: Humor, Geekery, Friendship, Fluff
notes: inspired by The Ultimate Question (a.k.a. Steve Really Needs New Friends) as a pinch-hit for [archiveofourown.org profile] LadyMerlin in the [community profile] remixrevival.
I'm pretty happy with this one.
